A School Project Comes to Life

Emma, Bianca and Pilar, all 17-year-old high school seniors, wanted their school project to make a difference beyond the classroom. They decided to partner with a nonprofit and reached out to The Vines Foundation, which already held a special place in Emma’s heart: her father, Gonza Robredo, is the General Manager of The Vines Resort & Spa and a longtime leader at The Vines.

With guidance from Laura Martorell, The Vines Foundation’s Territorial Coordinator, the girls planned a visit to Santa Bernardita, one of the community kitchens. There, they led two activities for the children: one about responsible pet care, and another featuring El Loco López, a playful figure whose grass “hair” grows as children water and care for it—similar to the Chia Pets familiar in the United States.

Through the activity, the children learned that plants are living things that need water, light, air and care to grow. It offered a hands-on introduction to environmental awareness while encouraging responsibility, patience and care for nature.

The morning ended with hot chocolate for everyone. The activities were simple, but the children embraced them: they drew, planted, learned something new and took home something of their own to care for.

Emma, Bianca and Pilar completed the school project they had set out to do, but the visit gave them something beyond the assignment: a chance to see firsthand the difference their time and attention could make. The children at Santa Bernardita, in turn, got to spend the morning with three thoughtful role models.

Thank you, Emma, Bianca and Pilar, for choosing to do your school project with us.
